Kilmarnock win late, Motherwell crush derby rivals – Team of the Week

Hibernian and Rangers opened the Scottish Premiership weekend with a 1-1 draw at Easter Road, before Celtic failed the capitalise on their opponents slip up the next day with a goalless draw at home to Aberdeen.

Motherwell picked up probably the standout result of the weekend, bodying their Lanarkshire rivals, Hamilton, 3-0. The last laugh of the week went to Kilmarnock, with a late winner at St Mirren on Monday keeping their European hopes alive.

Zdenek Zlamal – The Czech goalkeeper made several saves as Hearts won 1-0 at Dens Park. He has been in excellent form since returning to the team in recent weeks.


Craig Halkett – Livingston’s captain scored the equaliser as his side came back from behind to beat St Johnstone at the Tony Macaroni Arena. This was the defender’s fifth goal of the season.

Stuart Findlay – The defender put in a man of the match performance as Kilmarnock scored late to beat St Mirren in Paisley. This was Kilmarnock’s tenth clean sheet of the league season.

Dominic Ball – The versatile Englishman helped his side to a clean sheet as Aberdeen drew 0-0 against Celtic. He has excelled at right-back filling for the injured Shay Logan.


Daryl Horgan – The Irish winger was a constant threat for Hibs as they drew 1-1 at home to Rangers on Friday night. Rangers spurned many opportunities before Florian Kamberi scored from close range.

David Turnbull – The Motherwell midfielder scored twice and provide an assist for another as his side beat Hamilton in the Lanarkshire Derby. The 19-year-old, who recently signed a contract extension to the summer of 2021, has eight goals to his name this season.

Dean Campbell – The 17-year-old midfielder has a massive impact from the bench as Aberdeen drew 0-0 at Celtic Park. Celtic has dominated the first half, but a change of shape and Campbell’s introduction meant a much improved second half performance for the Dons.

Steve Lawson – The Togo international provided an assist for Livingston’s third goal as Livi beat St Johnstone 3-1. The 24-year-old has been in and out of the team this season but performances like this should see him have an extended run in the team.

Gboly Ariyibi – The winger set up the first and won the penalty for the second as Motherwell beat their Lanarkshire rivals Hamilton at Fir Park. His loan deal from Nottingham Forest is up at the end of the season and surely Motherwell will be doing all they can to keep him.


Sean Clare – The former Sheffield Wednesday forward scored the only goal as Hearts won 1-0 at Dens Park. This was Hearts’ first win in 5 games in all competitions.

Eamonn Brophy – Kilmarnock’s top scorer for the season provided the assist as Killie won 1-0 against St Mirren. This was Killie’s first win since January.
