The Football Round Up – Positivity at Hibs, Arsenal’s “relegation battle” and the European knockout stages
With the Champions League and Europa League draws taking place on Monday afternoon, Jack, Struan, Graeme and Jamie left the recording session conveniently late enough to discuss the biggest ties – amongst other things!
This week’s Big Question revolved around the boys’ favourite moments in the Champions League – without their own personal biases – with mentions going to La Remontada, Lucas Moura’s hat-trick against Ajax, Angel di Maria’s 2014 Final performance and the entire 2018/19 season as a whole.
There’s more of an Edinburgh focus on this week’s Scottish coverage, as Hibs and Hearts both impressed in their matches against Hamilton and Queen of the South respectively. There’s a discussion on this Sunday’s Scottish Cup Final and how Celtic’s young guns could impress. Finally, there’s a bit of coverage on the SWPL as Rangers went top of the league, defeating Glasgow City 5-0 and bringing about the question of whether the Old Firm are making the league more competitive or just taking over City’s dominance.
In this week’s coverage of the Premier League, the boys chat about an out-of-form Kai Havertz and examine why the first Manchester Derby of the season was so boring, before going into a deep discussion about Arsenal’s list of issues that see them with some of the worst form in the league. Jack and Graeme then talk up Southampton once again, with the Saints sitting pretty in third.
Finally, in Last Ditch Challenge, the boys discuss the biggest and best fixtures from the Champions League and Europa League draws, with each of their teams receiving a tough tie in the first knockout round. There’s a a brief discussion about the possibility of Mauricio Pochettino going to Borussia Dortmund, before the panel looks at the impact that Gerard Houllier made on Liverpool, after the former manager passed away at the age of 73.
